Susan Eason Endowment

The Arc of the Capital Area is a non-profit organization founded in 1949 by parents whose children with intellectual and developmental disabilities were excluded from public schools and other resources readily available to children without disabilities.
Susan Eason is the long term Executive Director of The Arc of the Capital Area. The Arc provides valuable support services, case management and educational assistance to hundreds of clients of all ages.

As the parent of a daughter with disabilities, Susan Eason has been a long-time advocate for the education and welfare of children with intellectual and developmental disabilities. For the past 28 years, she has passionately devoted her experience and skills to The Arc, serving as its Executive Director since 1991.

Ms. Eason has served the Austin Area Human Services Association, Community Action Network, United Way Capital Area, and the Basic Needs Coalition of Central Texas. She is Past Chair of the Basic Needs Coalition and the CAN Developmental Disability Planning Body. In 2006, Ms. Eason received the Sheffield Award for Executive of the Year from the Austin Community Foundation. She is a summa cum laude graduate of St. Edward’s University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English.

Under Ms. Eason’s leadership, the programs and services of The Arc have evolved to address the ever-changing and expanding array of issues affecting those with disabilities and their families. Through the work of Susan Eason and The Arc of the Capital Area, countless Central Texans have benefited from innovative programs and compassionate services. The Eason Scholarship Fund for Students with a Disability extends that commitment to enriching the lives of others by offering ACC students with an intellectual or developmental disability the opportunity to pursue a quality education at a premier institution.

Special thanks goes to ACC Student Alex Melendrez, ACC Faculty Member Mark Butland, and ACC Human Resources Vice-President Gerry Tucker for all their hard work to get the funding for this endowment.
