Gertrudes Cabacungan Cise Memorial

Gertrudes Cabacungan grew up in a farming community in the Philippines. She studied nursing at San Juan De Dios in Manila, graduating as a Registered nurse in 1961. The following year Gertrudes moved to Newark, New Jersey, to begin her career. She was passionate about nursing and dedicated over fifty years to working as a nurse, specializing in surgery. She spent twenty-one years with New York Eye and Ear Infirmary before becoming the founding Managing Nurse of Operations at MacKool Eye Institue in Astoria, New York. Her skill and devotion benefited many thousands of people in the half century she spent in nursing. Gertrudes, who passed away in 2012, was the loving wife of Dr. John Cise who was the founding Dean of ACC’s Mathematics & Science Department and who served as a physics professor at ACC from 1973 until 2020. He passed away in 2023.
