Dr. Ho-Kang Liu Memorial
Dr. Ho-Kang Liu, known by friends as HK was born in Nanking, China. He came to the United States in 1952 and graduated from Auburn University, BSME in 1955. He received an SMME degree from Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1957. He also received his doctorate from Washington University in St. Louis in 1965. In college, HK was elected as a member of the Tau Beta Pi, Pi Mu Epsilon and Pi Tau Sigma honorary societies. He worked for the Monsanto Chemical Company 1957 to 1965. From 1965 to 1995, he worked in various capacities at the General Electric Company, Research and Development Center in Niskayuna. From 1965 to 1970, HK served as a mechanical engineer. He was Unit Manager of the Solid Mechanics Unit from 1970 to 1972. In 1972, he was promoted to Technical Administrator of the Mechanical Laboratory. From 1975 until he retired in 1995, he was the Laboratory Manager of the Mechanical Engineering Laboratory. HK was a loving and dedicated husband, father and grandfather. Together with his wife Terry, they promoted the values of education, hard work, discipline, a tight-knit family and good food.
